About Me
My name is Moriah Schmidt. I have been a music teacher at Spiro Public Schools for ten (10) years. I moved to the position of Middle School and High School Choir Director at Spiro beginning the 2017-2018 school year and I still hold that position currently. I also teach 3rd-5th Grade General Music. I received my Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Arkansas- Fort Smith. My voice studio focuses on expanding musical experiences through performance opportunities. My goal is to build the confidence of my students and provide them with the tools they will need to improve their singing.

The Beginning.....

My life has always been surrounded by music. My childhood home doubled as my mother's private voice studio, so I grew up listening to older kids and adults singing Musical Theatre and Art Songs. I begged my mother to let me join, but she told me I had to wait. I needed to learn other instruments before I started voice lessons. I was on her waiting list. So, I began piano lessons in 2nd grade, I began playing the flute in 4th grade, and I finally joined my mother's private voice studio in 5th grade. I was both excited and nervous. Thankfully I eventually outgrew my nerves to some extent and I was able to enjoy the performance side of things. I was able to participate in many different ensembles in both band and choir through school events. I have been blessed with the opportunity to sing in Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center in New York City, each with a different choir. I was very involved in both band and choir while in school, but the moment I knew I was going to persue the voice aspect of music instead of the instrumental side was my Senior year of High School. I was in a trio selected from the OMEA All-State Choir and we were moved out in front of the choir for one song. My experience in front of those amazing voices made me realize how deeply connected I am to the human voice. It was awe-inspiring. That experience coupled with my background of years listening to my mother's voice students, led me to persue a degree in Music Education with a vocal emphasis. Once I graduated and began working at Spiro Elementary, I decided I wanted to provide the same opportunity to the students in my area that my mother still provides for her students. That is how M&M Voice Studio was born. I would be honored to give the same performance opportunities to the students in Spiro and the surrounding area that I was blessed with as a student. I look forward to helping students reach a more musically advanced tomorrow. Keep music alive and in our schools!
